Harvesting The best time of growing an organic vegetable garden is harvesting!! Using your organic vegetables in recipes cna save you money as well as allow you to taste the wonderful flavors of organic produce. The harvesting time for each plant depends on several factors including length of maturation time, temperature, precipitation, health of the soil, health of the plant, and insect and weed control. If any of these factors are less than optimal, the length of time from planting until harvest may be altered due to stunted plant growth, plant disease, and other distresses the plant may undergo. Using a product such as Safer® Brand 3-in-1 Garden Spray which eliminates plant diseases, insects and other pests is greatly beneficial to your plant as it will eliminate the problem without harming the plant or the ever vital soil. | | | What to Harvest Fruits and vegetables are usually harvested in increments. For example, not all tomatoes on a plant will ripen at one time, so the ripe ones can be pulled for use, allowing more room for sunshine and growth of the remaining tomatoes. By harvesting in this manner, plants will continue to produce and the finished goods can be picked when it's at its peak. Healthy tomatoes must be insect free. To keep your tomatoes insect free, use a product such as Safer® Brand Tomato and Vegetable Insect Killer. This spray will keep soft and hard bodied insects off of your plants! The vegetable or fruit you harvest at a particular time is dependent on when it should be harvested. (See When To Harvest.)
