Controlling Ants

Clean
Sweep, mop, and clean floors, countertops, tabletops, and other surfaces where food crumbs and grease can accumulate.  Keep your sink clean.  Run the disposal long enough to ensure that no food is left.  Vacuum regularly, placing a narrow tube on the end of the vacuum hose to extract ants from crevices.  Put talcum powder into vacuum bag before vacuuming.

Managing Moisture
Dry pots and dishes immediately after use.  Repair leaky pipes and plumbing fixtures and faucets.  Caulk baseboards, cupboards, sinks, toilets, pipe junctures and wall voids as needed.  Take infested houseplants, then submerge into slightly soapy water for 20-30 minutes.

Exclusion
Where possible, caulk cracks and crevices around foundations and at any observed points of entry, especially in kitchens and other food preparation areas.  For a temporary solution, try duct tape.  Smear petroleum jelly around electrical outlets to prevent  access.
