Directions for Use:

Garden: Prepare garden bed by turning under or pulling established leaves, then sprinkle around bedding plants, flowers or shrubs, Rake lightly into soil. Weed Prevention Plus works best if applied, watered in, and allowed to dry for 2-3 days. If excessive rain occurs, reapplication may be necessary. It keeps working 4-6 weeks. Reapply as needed. Do not apply on newly seeded areas. However, it can be used with confidence around transplants.

Lawn:
Spread Weed Prevention Plus evenly over lawn grass by hand or in a spreader. Avoid any bare spots where you are reseeding. Sprinkle in cracks on sidewalks or driveways. Weed Prevention Plus works best if applied, watered in, and allowed to dry for 2-3 days. If excessive rain occurs, reapplication may be necessary.

Application Rate:
Apply 5lb per 250 sq ft (25 ft x 10 ft) to turf or garden soil. If you choose you can use twice the recommended rate for even better control with no fear of burning your plants.

When to apply:
Your first lawn application should be in the early spring, 3-5 weeks before weeds begin to sprout. This is about the time the crocus and daffodils are blooming in your area. Reapply in late summer when temperatures turn cooler to control late season weeds. Apply to gardens at any time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Review Posted on Amazon.com The key is to apply it three times a year (spring when the daffodils are blooming, early summer, and fall) and to be diligent about it. If you apply it once, then, no, you're not going to get the best results. Do not, as another reviewer did, apply weed cloth and mulch over it. You're just wasting your money on weed cloth and on the pre-emergent. Weed cloth does not allow the soil to "breathe" properly and by that I mean, exchange oxygen and water as well as possible. Since it is a barrier to both natural decomposition as well as earthworms, it does not allow organic material such as mulch, leaves, and plant debris to get worked into the soil and enrich it.Back to the Concern Weed Prevention, not only does it work, it is also safe to use around pets, people, and wildlife and will not contaminate bodies of water by run-off. It has the additional benefit of being a mild fertilizer since it also is a natural, slow-release form of nitrogen.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Review Posted on Amazon.com Corn Gluten meal - when used properly - WORKS. Plain and simply put. Keep in mind that this stuff is not about "getting rid of weeds" but rather it's a pre-emergent. In other words, it prevents weeds, doesn't kill them off.The key is to time it properly. I put it down in the middle of March (in New Jersey/Mid Atlantic US) and then again about 60 days later. You can do it again in the fall if you can spare the $$. But to claim that this "doesn't work" like some of the other reviewers here is not really fair or accurate. You don't have to poison yourself, neighbors, or the planet to have a "green" lawn. Give it try.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Review Posted on Amazon.com I loved this product. You have to use it right. Apply in the fall to stop weeds in the Spring. Apply it in the Spring to stop weeds in the fall. And apply it in the summer to stop weeds in the fall. It works year round for me on preventing new weeds.

All About

All About Weeds

Unwanted weeds can cause harm in your garden if left unattended. They can crowd out the flowers and vegetable plants you have worked hard to cultivate.

Weeds can also cause damage to sidewalks and cause cracks in driveways and other outdoor surfaces; and let’s not forget how weeds can take over a backyard.

Weeds are typically just plants that are growing in the wrong place. Most weeds are just the natural flowers and plants that grow in your area and some may have been introduced in the past for medicinal, culinary or decorative purposes. So if you are wondering how to classify weeds basically, if you didn’t plant it, and you don’t want it in your lawn or garden, it’s a weed.

Unwanted weeds can cause allergic reactions for some people; some of them have jagged leaves and many of them are unruly and well, they grow like weeds, taking over your garden and crowding out the plants you have spent time, energy and money on cultivating.

Control Options

Control Options for Battling the Weeds in your Yard

To control weeds, maintenance is key. If you’re looking for organic control options so you can still walk in your grass and spend time in your garden without worrying about the harmful effects of chemical residuals, read about the two types of solutions for weeds that are approved for organic gardening.

Herbicidal Soap

A contact killer, herbicidal soap will kill any weeds or grass that you spray it on and only those plants. The great thing about herbicidal soap is it won’t run through the soil and it won’t kill nearby plants.

It works great to kill weeds or unwanted grass within hours on sidewalks, driveways, between cobblestone walkways or outdoor pavers.

Also, spray it in your flower bed on those pesky plants you don’t want around. Just make sure you don’t accidentally spray it on your flowers, vegetable plants or other ornamentals because herbicidal soap doesn’t differentiate between plants you like and weeds you don’t like.

Use herbicidal soap as needed throughout the gardening season to keep weeds that happen to sprout up, under control.

Corn Gluten

Corn Gluten is a natural, pre-emergent, herbicide, which means it kills the roots of sprouting seeds before they can take hold so the weed will never grow. It works best if you mix it with mulch or into the soil for flower beds or apply it to the lawn then water it. If it rains heavily in the 2-3 days after the initial application, you’ll want to reapply, so watch the weather forecast. Reapply every 3-5 weeks for best results.

If you apply corn gluten in the early spring to your flower bed, vegetable garden or lawn, you’ll be greatly reducing the number of weeds you have to spray with herbicidal soap or pull throughout the growing season.

If you are planning a garden that you’ve planted from seeds, don’t use corn gluten until the flowers or vegetables you’ve planted are firmly established plants; otherwise corn gluten is a safe, natural way to control weeds throughout the season on all plant types. You can even use it on fruits and vegetable crops, up to the day of harvest.

If you love feeding the birds, but hate the mess and all the weed and grass that grows from the seeds all over the ground, sprinkle an ample amount of corn gluten into the ground below the feeder to stop those seeds from germinating.
