  1. Where do the nests come from?
Each nest is built at the beginning of the year by a fertilized queen that hibernates throughout the winter months.. Throughout the season, the queen produces more eggs which results in increasingly larger nests . Old nests are not used again.
  2. How are honey bees different than social wasps?
Although honey bees are from the same family of insects, they are less aggressive and normally do not attack humans unless provoked.

  3. Are social wasps beneficial insects?
Yes, because they are predators of many insects they are a natural control device for decreasing the bug population.
  4. What should I do if I am stung?
If you are allergic to the venom, stings can be life-threatening and you should seek medical attention immediately.
  5. Will citronella candles repel wasps or hornets?
No. To rid an area of wasps or hornets, you need to locate & destroy the nest. We recommend using our Wasp & Hornet spray.
  6. How can I prevent wasps from entering my home?
The only way to prevent them from entering is to locate and close the holes they use to gain access into your home.
  7. Is there any kind of smell, plant, or color that wasps in particular do not like?
I have no knowledge of any repellents to wasps (colors, smells, plants, etc).
  8. Other than the honeybee is there a predator to the wasp that is not harmful to the garden and humans?
To my knowledge, there are no natural predators of the wasp that can be effectively used to control them.
  9. How can I identify nests of wasps or hornets or yellow jackets?
Visit our nest identification page to find out what type of insect you are dealing with.
  10. How can I get rid of wasps when I can't get to the nest?
In instances like these, you may need to contact a pest control professional in your area. Usually he or she has special tools to reach this type of area.
  11. What can I do to deter wasps? If they build a nest, is there a natural spray I can use on the nest?
You can  use our Poison-FreeŽ  Wasp and Hornet Killer. It works two ways. 1) Spray any wasps that you see. The spray will kill on contact. 2) In the evening, or when activity is low, thoroughly drench the nest with our Poison-FreeŽ Wasp and Hornet Killer. The scent will repel wasps and keep them from returning to the nest. Continue to spray and kill any wasps you see.

Wait one day. Come back to the nest, and if it appears that there are no more wasps, and no more nest activity, knock down the nest.

Knock down the nest when there is no more activity. If you wait, it is possible other pests, such as wood beetles, will take up residence.

  12. How long does your non-disposable wasp trap bait last. Is replacement bait available online?
The yellow jacket trap bait is effective for three weeks. It is available in our online store.
