Screen doors and windows in your home.   If they are already screened, be sure to repair any small holes before fly season.  

Fly swatters can be used to kill flies indoors and outdoors.  Flexible fly swatters that are made of wire are better than the plastic type.

Glue sticks and paper are available for use primarily indoors.  Although they are not very attractive, they do attract and catch flies.  They are ideal for use in garages, covered porches and patios, storage sheds, etc.

Bottle or bag traps are also available and should be used primarily outdoors.  Most are sold with the bait which attracts flies (replacement baits available).  Once flies enter the trap, they cannot escape.  Replacement baits available.  

Ultraviolet light traps are also available.

Clean and Sanitize

Follow sound sanitary practices in and around your home to eliminate breeding areas of flies.  Cover garbage tightly, and dispose of frequently.  Dispose of organic matter, such as lawn clippings, manure, and weed piles promptly, and use good composting practices.  Clean trash cans regularly with boiling water to kill housefly maggots -- dump rinse water into drain rather than onto lawn.  Clean and sanitize kitchen and bathroom fixtures.  Vacuum up sluggish or dead flies.  Clean pet food trays and litter boxes regularly.  Remove pet feces from lawn.

Exclusion

Caulk or seal cracks and crevices in windows and doors, along  troughs, and along roofline.  Close openings around water and gas pipes, electrical switchboxes and vents  that feed into buildings.  Use window and door screens to block access to home.  Use copper, bronze or aluminum screens instead of standard wire screens to prevent rusting.  Fix screen holes.  Use non-attracting yellow exterior insect lights.
