Since aphids produce a sweet, sticky excretion known as honeydew, if you notice a substance on your plants that feels sticky, it may mean aphids are living on the plant. This substance may turn black if it is affected by sooty mold fungus. Leaves may curl and turn yellowish if there is a large infestation of aphids on a plant or tree.
