Safer ®Brand Diatomaceous Earth - How to Use D.E.
Safer® Brand Diatomaceous Earth (D.E.) provides pest control against a variety of crawling insects. This ready-to-use powder-like insecticide is super easy to use and can be applied to places where insects spend most of their time. Once insects come in contact with this powder, it immediately goes to work to completely kill them within 48 hours.
Safer® Brand D.E. is non-staining and has no odor, so you can confidently apply it in your home. D.E. also works outdoors to eliminate crawling insects as they try to sneak inside your home. Just keep in mind that it will need to be reapplied after watering or rain.

Kill Crawling Insects Within 48 Hours
By applying Safer® Brand Diatomaceous Earth where you have a crawling insect problem, you’ll notice that D.E. goes to work right away! After applying D.E., you’ll find that bugs die within 48 hours. If you have a large infestation, it may take a few days for all insects to come in contact with the powder and the infestation to end.
A Mechanical Killer
Diatomaceous earth is not like other insect killers on the market today. Insects cannot build up an immunity to D.E. since it works as a mechanical killer to kill insects on contact. In fact, this dust-like powder is made from crushed fossilized algae, a.k.a diatoms that come from freshwater sources. To people, it feels like a fine powder, but these tiny fossil shards are very sharp when insects with delicate exoskeletons encounter them. After application, insects cross through the powder, which tears into their exoskeletons, causes them to dehydrate, and they die within 48 hours.
Sprinkle Directly Where Insects Live
Apply Safer® Brand Diatomaceous Earth directly to cracks and crevices inside and outside your home, hitting these insects directly where they live and breed. Coat a thin layer of dust underneath and behind appliances, furniture, doorways, windowsills and other hiding places throughout your kitchen and living areas. And if you see any insects while you’re applying, make sure you sprinkle D.E. directly on them for further benefit.
A Solution for Bed Bugs
In order to use diatomaceous earth to get rid of a bedbug infestation, it’s important that all areas of the bedroom are thoroughly dusted. Dismantle your bed and bedframe in order to reach every crevice where bedbugs hide. Dust all areas of the bed with D.E., including the edges, folds and surface area of the mattress. It’s even a good idea to dust your windowsills and openings in your bedroom, too. Once the bedbugs come into contact with D.E., they will die within 48 hours.
A Solution for Fleas
If you’ve found that fleas have entered your home, whether they came inside with your pets or by another means, D.E. can help! Thoroughly apply diatomaceous earth to cracks and crevices, baseboards, and carpets wherever fleas are suspected. You can also use D.E. on the floor and bedding where your pet sleeps. Be sure to keep your pets out of the affected areas and off the bedding until the flea infestation is gone and D.E. is cleaned up and removed.
A Solution for Outdoor Insects
D.E. can also be used to get rid of crawling insects found on the exterior of your home. Apply it in a band around the foundation of your home or business to kill any insects that cross through it. Just remember that D.E. only works to kill nuisance insects when dry, so you’ll need to reapply after rain or watering.
