After making contact with or ingesting this powder, insects die within 48 hours.

    How it Works

    Safer® Home Diatomaceous Earth is a powder made up of finely crushed algae fossils. Though it feels soft to the touch for us, each microscopic piece is like a tiny shard of glass to insects. It shreds insects' exoskeletons as they move across it or ingest it. Insects become dehydrated and die within 48 hours of contact. Large infestations can take a few days for insects to make contact.

    Tried this product for the first time. Have used it for a couple of weeks now on my front interlock patio where there were at least 10 to 15 ant hills. I applied this product approx. 5 or 6 times over the two weeks and it is not effective. Today I went out to look and there were at least 15 ant hills still, not necessarily the same ones but still....I suppose I should somehow mark them so I know for sure. However, definitely not getting rid of them.

    Frustrated by ant needed & safety issues

    I bought two 3 bags but had only my hand to spread powdery substance over large overgrown area to kill fleas for cats and humans. I will need another six bags to even begin to cover area. I’m on social security and can’t afford that. Secondly I was told by local animal control that it was safe for humans and animals. Your operator said I had to remove my outside cats for 24 hrs. Which I can’t do. Now I’m not so sure if I should buy more even if I could find a way to afford. Also I didn’t initially know that I had to go thru another corporation to reach Safer until I checked my bill. I’m no computer person at 73 so really had me frustrated. Good phone service once I found it. Thank you for listening to me.

    I'm giving this product a 3 for now because I do not know how long it takes for it to kill fleas in a severely infested house. Is there a schedule I need to start making? I put this on my carpet but I still see fleas popping continuously

    It can take 24-48 hours for insects to die after coming in contact with this product. The product will have no effect on larvae or eggs, so multiple methods may be needed to eliminate an infestation. Please contact us directly at 855-767-4264 with any questions, we're happy to help!

    Diatomaceous Earth has many uses. One: I use it in my garden to keep the slugs from eating my plants. Just sprinkle a little at the base of stems.

    What percentage of this product is crystalline silica?

    Our Diatomaceous Earth is non-crystalized as it is the amorphous variety. The product contains less than 1% Crystalline Silicon Dioxide.

    This product lists diatomaceous earth at 85% and 15% "other ingredients". How is this product different than Food Grade DE? What is in the 15% other ingredients?

    Our DE is naturally sourced, and therefore there will be other ingredients found alongside the silicon dioxide (minerals and oxides). These ingredients are naturally present in the DE and are not additives.

    Because this product is intended for use as an insecticide, it is not considered food grade.
