We've raised organic produce for over 40 years without using sprays but this year the Harlequin and Blister beetles hit our greenhouse with a vengeance. We used this Safer Brand Pyrethrin based product and knocked the beetles down immediately.
Good but not great. Very limited efficacy and life.

This is a good but limited product. First and foremost, pyrethrin breaks down fast in sunlight, and that's not emphasized in the documentation. It's best if you apply this at sunset or very early in the day to give it time to work before it degrades. Secondly, insecticidal soap is a contact insecticide that only works on soft-shelled insects (aphids and friends). Don't expect it to work on Japanese beetles or the like. Pyrethrin products are expensive because it is organic (harvested) and lasts a day at best. So, it's fine to knock down your aphids, but they'll be back and you'll need more. Probably better to just go for the insecticidal soap alone (less $$), and find a source carrying the 1 gallon or 2.5 gallon jugs. Safer produces a 1 gallon version of the soap, but it's not for sale in their web store. Really makes no sense.Thank you for the time taken to provide this feedback. We apologize for the experience. I bought this spray for a japanese beetle problem I was having with my fruit trees, and I have been very happy with it. Along with the traps I purchased, weekly application of the spray has helped to kill hundreds of them, and protect my trees. They drop within seconds. Also used it on my hydrangeas with the same great results.
